Berlin-Hauptbahnhof (central station)
the central station of Berlin
For journeys within Germany and to neighbouring countries, Berlin-Hauptbahnhof is the largest crossing station of Europe. After an immense increase of the traffic volume in the German Capital, a new rail conception was required. Berlin-Hauptbahnhof is now the most important junction and the core of the new rail model – the so-called “Pilzkonzept” (mushroom concept). This means that every long-distance train passing Berlin can stop at different stations and drive through the city directly. Furthermore, every train stops at Hauptbahnhof, which is the geographical centre of Berlin, likewise, and one can change to every other route. This way not only the transport connection to Berlin is ideal, but also the journey continuation within the City to the desired final destination.

The station Berlin-Gesundbrunnen is, to some extend, the gate to the Baltic states. Long-distance and regional trains primarily stop here on their road to Schwedt, Rostock, Stralsund and Stettin. Moreover, the station is located relatively centrally and is ideally connected to the public transport of Berlin in order to reach all other districts of the City.
